Reading is critical for you child’s success, not just in school, but in life. One of the best ways to teach your child to read is to encourage a love of reading and that is the primary goal of Best Children's Books. We want to help you find the right book for your child’s age, personality, and interests. Not every book will interest every child, but if you can get the right book into the hands of a child at the right time it can instill a love for reading in that child.
However, the joy of reading needs to be reinforced throughout a child’s life as they grow and mature with a variety of books. A child that loved Dr. Seuss when they were in pre-school will be ready to move on to more complicated stories like Charlotte’s Web when they were in elementary school and gradually towards longer, more complicated stories, like the Harry Potter series or perhaps The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Every child is different and the rate they learn to read is always different, but it is always easier to teach them to read if they are reading about a subject that they are interested in reading about. It is not always easy to grab a child’s attention, particularly in this age of omnipresent video, but the right book can still captivate a child.
One of the best things to do is to watch your child and see what fascinates them. Small children are often obsessed with animals. Many little boys are fascinated with dinosaurs and others with bulldozers and cranes, which are pretty much modern dinosaurs. If a child has a pet then that is a great reading topic, but if your child doesn’t have a puppy and you don’t want to buy a puppy it is probably a good idea not to give your child a book about puppies. And perhaps no book has forced more parents to shell out more money that Black Beauty, because horses, saddles, stable fees, riding lessons, grooming, and oats are a lot more expensive than puppies or kittens.
