How much is common red fox fur?
Me and my buddies are going fox hunting in Canada for a couple of weeks. Roughly how much is the fur of an adult fox worth, assuming it is in decent condition? Please, no hippie drivel. A fox will die next weekend, weather I stuff it or sell it is up to you.
The September issue of Fur Fish and Game Magazine’s Fur Market Report had the following to say about Red Fox:
Red Fox may fetch $20-$25 for the very best Alaskan/Canadian goods, $12-$15 for heavier goods from the lower 48, and the rest will go cheaply.
Given that at this time of year fox pelts aren’t going to be in their prime, I wouldn’t expect to get much from one. And if you’re not planning on trapping the fox, you’re going to have at least one bullet hole that’s going to further reduce the pelt’s value. With those criteria in mind, you’re likely to see very low offers, maybe as low as $1 for your fox pelt.
