What denomination is Melody carlson?
I already know that she is Christian, but after reading her tru colors series im thinking about talking to my mom about getting re baptized. so any answers would help!
“FR: Tell us about your church experiences, how you grew up (or maybe didn’t grow up) in the church, where you attend now, your involvement in your local assembly, etc.
MC: As a teen and young adult, I was blessed to be part of a phenomenal Foursquare church pastored by the late Roy Hicks Jr. It was during the Jesus Freak movement and our church was frequently visited by people like Keith Green, Second Chapter of Acts, and Amy Grant (before they were big names). For years I taught women’s Bible studies and was very involved in women’s ministries. I now fellowship at a nondenominational community church.”
That’s from an interview at the faithful reader website. A Foursquare Church is an evangelical charismatic (or Pentacostal according to Wiki) denomination. Evangelical Christians believe it is their duty to spread the message of Christ to the world, actively trying to help people come to the promised salvation He can offer them. Charismatic Christians believe that the miracles seen in the early church are still available for modern Christians to experience. In Acts there is a verse (and you’ll have to forgive me for being very rusty) near the beginning that basically says whenever the gospel is preached a divine manifestation will appear to confirm it. This is a key verse in the Charismatic (and all offshoots) theology. More conservative (or traditional, depending on one’s view) denominations adhere to some form of the idea that the gifts were dependent on the presence of one of the Apostles, and that the verse in Acts was spoken directly to them rather than to Christians in general.
In America, a great majority of self-proclaimed non-denominational churches have charismatic tendencies. This is because aside from Pentecostals (which has a negative connotation throughout most of the country) there is not an organized authoritative body governing the theology and practice of Charismatic Christianity. Rather there is a loose network or coalition among many of the separate non-denominational churches. (Please note, most independent {meaning they do not belong to the identified leadership or council of the denomination} churches that adhere to or to most of an established denomination’s theology will identify themselves as Independent __________; ie, Independent Baptist, or Independent Methodist, etc.)
Regardless of denomination most Christian churches practice water Baptism in the same manner, as laid out in the New Testament.
I wish you luck in your quest for peace.
