Is being a vegetarian easy and effective, can you give me some experiences you’ve had being a vegetarian?
I am in 6th grade and discussing the pros and cons of being a vegetarian. I need to know if it is difficult or easy, and effective. Can you tell me about some of your own experiences being vegetarian?
Thanks, you’ll be a great help.
Pros:
Being a vegetarian is great for your health! As a vegetarian, you eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes (like beans, nuts, and lentils). They add more fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other great nutrients to your diet like antioxidants.
Being a vegetarian lowers your risk of many bad diseases, such as prostate and colon cancer, obesity, coronary heart disease (which causes heart attack), high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Vegetarians also (on average) have lower body mass indices, lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, lower rates of hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
Another great part about being vegetarians is that your food costs less, because you don’t consume expensive meats.
Cons:
Being a vegetarian can sometimes be hard. Getting protein and calcium can sometimes be hard, especially for vegans. As a vegetarian, you have to watch what you eat more to be sure to get proper nutrients. It can also be hard ordering food at a restaurant as a vegetarian–most dishes have meat in them. It is VERY hard to order from restaurants as a vegan. One cool part about restaurants, though, is that there are many ethnic types of food (indian, asian, ethiopian) which are mainly vegetarian anyway. Being vegetarian can make you a more adventurous and cultured person as far as food goes.
Another con of being vegetarian is that sometimes you get asked akward questions about your eating habits. Sometimes, these confrontations can turn into debates! It’s not too bad, though, as long as you are confident, know your facts, have done your research, and can explain why you are vegetarian to others. You can even educate others about better eating habits. When you go to parties, sometimes there isn’t much you can eat–sometimes I have found that the best solution is to offer to bring a vegetarian dish for other to try. This is another great way to handle social situations as a vegetarian and educate others about healthy living at the same time.
Hope this helps! Good luck on your project.
