Book Mary
What are some examples of foreshadowing in the book Frankienstien by Mary Shelley?

Can someone please help me?

I did this question back in high school, and I cannot find my essay on it but from doing some quick research to start you in the right direction, it would be good to focus on the vernacular that Victor Frankenstein uses (words such as “fate” and “omen”) are throughout the novel. These words foreshadow the tragedy, which will ultimately happen.

In addition, there are numerous important quotes such as:

“One man’s life or death were but a small price to pay for the acquirement of the knowledge which I sought, for the dominion I should acquire and transmit over the elemental foes of our race.” (Shelley 16) This describes Victor’s pursuit for knowledge at all lengths and foreshadows the disastrous consequences.

“I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown power, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation.” (Shelley 36). This quote foreshadows the events that take place after he creates his monster, (i.e. his lack of responsibility)

“the storm that was even then hanging in the stars.” Victor blames his experiences on fate: “destiny was too potent”

Foreshadowing in Chapter’s 18 and 22 where Henry Clerval enjoys beauty of nature (as does monster) which foreshadows Clerval’s death and foreshadowing in Chapter 22 (The power of love–Elizabeth helps soothe Victor’s insanity. Foreshadowing Elizabeth’s death.

Hope that helps, if I find my actual essay that I wrote I will forward it to you .
