What's in a word---responsibilities

WHAT'S IN A WORD

ALL UNDERLINED WORDS CAN BE FOUND IN THE WORD

                                    RESPONSIBILITES

"Who tore the poster and bent the frame?" Dad asked. Guilty little Billy, with a straight face, blamed it on his sister. "Rose, did you do it?" "No dad, it wasn't me, honest." "Well," said dad, "someone has to be held responsible for what happened." With that, he started to remove his belt. Sobs were now coming from both kids as they prepared for the worst. Then Billy was able to bolster enough courage to confess. "It isn't her fault, dad, I did it and I'm sorry I didn't tell you." He also apologized to his sister and asked her to forgive him. She said she loved him and forgave him. Billy's dad hugged him and thanked him for telling the truth. Billy stood silent for a moment, then looking into his father's eyes, said what he did was wrong and needed to be taught a lesson for his actions. His dad said "Son, I'm not going to spare the rod and spoil the child. Your punishment will be not going to the season opener of the Pistons next week, and if anything like this happens again, I'll blister your behind."The blame game, we play it even though we know we'll lose. It's been said, if you give a man enough rope, he'll hang himself. Learning to take responsibility is an ongoing process from the time we're born, through our teen years and on into adulthood. There are several possibilities for accepting responsibilities.

Restaurant managers say the lobster will be fresh, the ribs will be "fall off the bone" tender, the bison burger is the best in town and the fillet of sole is to die for. The grocery store advertises pints of fruit that are guaranteed fresh and ripe, bunches of "organic" beets, and bulk pinto beans at the sale price. Airlines need to hire pilots that can get you to Berlin in time to enjoy an afternoon espresso, or to the Alps to have a few lessons before hitting the slopes. It's also nice to arrive and know that your luggage didn't get lost. Your dry cleaner is supposed to clean and press your clothes without leaving iron marks on them, as well as get the stain spots out.

The Bible tells us we are to be disciples and spread the good news, but we can't feel responsible if they ignore the word of God. All the Pastor can do is share the Gospel with those in prison, ask God to bless them and pray they will repent. Some will come to know Jesus and for others it will be their loss. Jesus told His disciples to kick the dust off their sandals and move on if they were not welcome.

As Max Lucado wrote in A Gentle Thunder,"for all its peculiarities and unevenness, the Bible has a simple story. God made man. Man rejected God. God won't give up until He wins him back. God will whisper. He will shout. He will touch and tug. He will take away our burdens; He'll even take away our blessings. If there are a thousand steps between us and Him, He will take all but one. He will leave the final one to us. The choice is ours. Please understand. His goal is not to make you happy. His goal is to make you His. His goal is not to get you what you want; it is to get you what you need."

What will your response be if Jesus asks you to pick up your cross and follow Him?

"What is impossible from a human perspective is possiblewith GOD". Luke 18:27
