Question about Clifford the Big Red Dog?

I just don't feel that this is an appropriate character for children. Did they EVER mention taking him to the vet and getting him snipped? Can you IMAGINE how bad it must have been when the big red dog started humping something? I seriously do not think a water bottle would stop that behavior.

This idea for a question inspired by The Geek.
Yes--good point Johnny

They never showed the giant piles of dog crap that had to be picked up either.

Time to hug Clifford

Nothing beats Clifford.

Reading to my son, Joshua, has been a tradition in the evenings since he was too young to understand what we were doing. Now, however, at the ripe old age of three he loves to read with Daddy and picks his own books out each night, running through the hallway with selections in hand. Clifford always seems to be in the stack and Clifford the Big Red Dog comes back more often than all of the other Clifford books he loves. He enjoys finding Cliffor (and this is not very difficult) and laughing when I can't. From a reading enjoyment standpoint, this one is fantastic for kids. And if you are in a rush to get them into bed, Clifford is always a quick read.

Kids will LOVE this book!

by Cris LaRue from Long island, NY on 2001-03-06
My 8-year old daughter was having trouble with her reading. It got to the point where she hated picking up a book, which distressed me greatly because I am a compulsive reader. However, she did love to watch the shows on PBS kids and when she spotted this book at a school book fair she was wild with excitement. Originally I balked when she asked me to buy it. I thought it was below her grade level, but we bought it anyway and she enjoys it immensely! It is based on an actual episode form PBS and has a very good lesson built in as well. It reads easy, but is not boring. What a pleasure it is to see her reading enthusiastically again. We now own several Clifford books, she has progressed to more difficult chapter books, and we are all reading happily ever after!Don't deny your child something that can change them forever.

great reading !! captures kids attention.

My 4 yr old is like all other PBS watchers. He became an instant admirer of Clifford.I searched bookstores and they just have beginners topics like - 'Cliffords manners' or Clifford and pals' etc.He didnt like them very much.Since this book is based on an actual episode that they showed on TV,my son was even more excited to read this again and again. It has sure made him more interested in reading and i'm sure ur kids will too.But be prepared to read this to them multiple times.

Purchasing Season 1 of Sweet Valley High?

I was wondering where it would be possible to purchase season 1 of the Sweet Valley High series. I know that so far this is the only season that has been released by Buena Vision Home Entertainment. I have tried Blockbuster but they did not have it. Could a retail store like Target or K-Mart have it or would i be better off going to Amazon and purchasing it with my debit card? Thanks for taking the time to answer this question i really appreciate it.

I guess it's not for sale in stores - but you can go online and order it straight from Amazon, or you could go to the Walmart site and order it - they will ship it to your home store for free. (the Target website shows a link to Amazon to order it).

That said - it's way cheaper on Ebay if you find a seller you can trust.

Read the original, if you must

by anna kelly from Manhattan, KS USA on 2009-11-14
If you are/were a fan of the original Sweet Valley High series, go to used bookstores or Salvation Army. Whatever you do, do NOT buy this 2008 reissue of the series. The plot is boring, the characters are unlikable for the most part, and the attempt at writing teen slang is silly and off-putting. We are meant to root for Jessica, a bratty, flirty 16-year-old, as she finally lands wealthy Bruce Patman as a boyfriend. Since they are both equally superficial and egotistical, it ought to be a match made in heaven. But Bruce is picky about his girlfriends: they can't beat him at tennis, they have to cater to all his whims, and they can't be on the cheerleading squad. (A high school senior who doesn't want to date a cheerleader? Shockingly, yes.) Jessica tries to appease him, but her twin Elizabeth is worried that she's sacrificing too much of herself. Well, since we see Jessica being mean to others and generally being snobby, before AND during dating Bruce, I don't see how exactly Jessica ever really changed. One thing I really disliked was Jessica's attitude towards new girl Robin, whom she pretends to be friendly with only when it serves her interest. Robin, you see, is larger than a size 4 (how much larger? I guess it's up to the reader), and Jessica's thoughts on Robin's body shape are nasty and almost hateful. Again, there is nothing to like about Jessica's character, so it's hard to wish her a happy ending.

I loved the original Sweet Valley High when I was younger, and this new remake of the original classic takes the meat of the original story and makes it relevant for today's teens by adding stuff like cell phones. The only thing that irritated me was some minor tweeks in the characters. Still great for teens.

Does anyone remember the Little Golden books? Can you help me figure out which one this is?

Ok, a friend of mine is trying to remember which book this is so that she can try to find it again for her daughter. She said it's about a boy who has a bunch of dinosaurs and at one point they're like all helping wash the car or something like that. He's an older boy (it's not My Little Dinosaur) and has all different kinds. Anyone know what it is? Thanks so much!

Awesome book to teach about being helpful

by carolyn from Canal Winchester, OH on 2004-12-31
If you're looking for a book on self worth and how everyone works as a team to make things happen, this is your book. The red caboose complains that the children never wave to him as he goes by because they all know that he's last. All the other train cars get their attention but no one notices him. He laments that he would like to be the big steam engine in the front or one of the other cars instead. However, one day, the big engine tries to pull the train up a mountain and well, can't. The train starts to slip but the red caboose puts on his brake and keeps the train from falling down the mountain until two big engines pull up behind to push the train up the mountain. The caboose saved the day and then all the children saved their biggest waves for him! You're never too small to make a difference, even if you are last! Great book, my little guy just loves it and it is so wonderful for the train lover in your house too. It's also nice to see the caboose for a change too - I really miss them! Be prepared for tons of questions though - this book covers a bunch of stuff and the illustrations are just beautiful. A great find and it can be more easily found in your local store too.

WELL ILLUSTRATED EDITION OF CLASSIC STORY

by D. Blankenship from The Ozarks on 2006-09-23
This is one of those stories that all kids know, or eventually will. This story was first published around 1952. It is still around and as popular as ever. This says a lot. The story by Marian and the Illustrations by Tibor Gergely in this edition are great. The text is quite readable and the pictures eye catching. The theme of the story "too help" is quite universal and no worse for the wear. This is a nice additon to any childern's library. Recommend this one highly.

This is the latest addition to the "Little Golden Book" collection that I have purchased for my twin grandchildren. They totally loved the story. We have almost read the print off the pages and still they continue to ask me to read it again. They cheer for the little pig in the brick house and enjoy singing the "Big Bad Wolf" song. They look on the back cover of the book and "remind" me which "Golden Books" we are missing and need to add to our library. These are the same stories that I read to my children that helped encourage their love of reading. I am very happy that "Little Goldne Books" have continued to be publiched through the years.

THE SEA IS THE LIMIT

by from on 2001-02-05
."Scuffy the Tugboat" is a classic in childrens literature. It has an almost iconic status with people who grew up in the early Baby Boomer years. Way back in 1946, toy stores were quiet uncrowded places. In one toy shop there was a rocking horse, a GI Joe Doll and a few cuddly soft toys ........ and one grumpy red painted tugboat called Scuffy.Scuffy was ambitious. He thought he was meant for bigger things, than just sailing in a bathtub. The toy shop owner (with his memorable polka dot tie) and his little boy, took Scuffy off to a laughing brook. It was springtime and the brook was running fast. Scuffy was soon off on his adventure. The pastoral world he passed through seemed placid, but at night the hooting owl gave him a fright. The river got bigger and busier. Scuffy was proud because he knew it was HIS river. He was nearly squashed between two logs that were on their way to the sawmill. With the spring melt a great flood burst the rivers banks. A lady and her cow had to be rescued off her roof.Pushed along by the floodwaters Scuffy arrived in the big city. It was a very noisy and busy place. When Scuffy tooted nobody noticed.Scuffy was just about to be swept out to sea. He wished the man with the polka dot tie and his little boy could rescue him. Miracle of miracles, there they were just as Scuffy was about to pass the last bit off land. He was rescued. Scuffy realises that sailing in the bathtub is not such a bad thing ...... in fact he said "this is the life for me".The illustrations by Tibor Gergely are what make this book so appealing. The scenes are full of life and activity, be it the pastoral river scene with its friendly animals and the colourful towns and cities. Look for the details in the city scene. Try to find the horses. Tibor Gergely was a great children's book illustrator from this period. In addition to his artwork in Scuffy you can enjoy his illustrations in those other "Little Golden Book" classics, "The Little Red Caboose" and "Tootle". These three books are perfect companions in any young person's library.

Scuffy is all about seeing the big world and returning homr.

by A. N. Norman (kingfish53@hotmail.com) from L.A., California on 1999-10-14
In the early 1950's I was introduced to the wonders of the the world when my parents bought me "Scuffy". Who would have believed that a little red-painted tugboat could captivate me for nearly 50 years.Scuffy, the brave and somewhat feisty little red- painted tugboat, tires of his existence of living in the toystore owned by the "man with the polka dot tie" and states that he was meant for "bigger things".The bigger things leads Scuffy on an odyssey through quiet mountain brooks, singing streams, rushing rivers, floods and eventually the sea. On his journey, Scuffy meets cows, men in "great boots" pushing logs, victims of floods and the scariness of the big city. As Scuffy hurtles towards his ultimate destiny, the sea, he longs for the joy and comfort of the toy store and the love of the man with the polka dot tie. Just as Scuffy is about to pass the last piece of land, prior to entering the eternal sea, the man with the polka dot tie catches the frightened red- painted tugboat with the blue smokestack and returns him to the toystore and his new domain, the safe and calming waters of the bathtub.A delightful work that will surely be requested night after night by children. It was my favourite and my daughter's favourite.

by PFLA from Springfield, IL on 2005-05-16
Since Amazon doesn't list the titles included in this collection, I will list them for anyone who is interested. They are as follows: The Shy Little Kitten, The Boy with a Drum, The Animals of Farmer Jones, Baby Farm Animals, The Jolly Barnyard, The Fuzzy Duckling, The Cow Went Over the Mountain, The Little Red Hen, Mrs Mooley, A Name for Kitty, Two Little Gardeners, and A Day On the Farm Not quite as many stories as I had expected from over 300 pages but the stories (the ones I remember) are familiar down to a detail, same pictures and everything. If you are looking for a trip down memory lane or to share some of your own memories with your next generation, then this is a great way to do it. Isn't it about time these books were republished?

wonderful collection - buy these books for your children!

by Happy Homeschool Mom from USA on 2006-02-08
This book and the other collections (farm tales, animal tales) are very well done! They are much more enjoyable to read than the "treasury" collections of little golden books which condense the stories, leaving out parts and omitting many of the illustrations. In these books the stories are complete, the pages are glossy, and the illustrations are bright and colorful. My children are able to enjoy reading the old Golden Books that are no longer available individually. We especially love the illustrations by Eloise Wilkin!

Why is the last Laura Ingalls Wilder Book so short?

i heard she died while writing it.is that true?

Apparently not. While it was printed from a manuscript found after her death, it seems to have been an abandoned project written around 1940 (i.e. 17 years before her death).

Work work work!

by Tonya Speelman from Goldendale WA on 2006-08-17
Boy I was born in the wrong era. In the 1900's they didn't have TV, Nintendo etc. They worked super hard, but also got together and helped each other. I just wish I could have been a part of that time. This is my favorite author of all time. I loved Little House on the Prairie and these books with her thoughts in them will always be cherished. I think I will purchase a set for each of my girls and give them to them when they are a bit older. I think she has such profound wisdom, your life will only be blessed if you read these books.

WONDERFUL ADDITION TO A WONDERFUL SERIES. This one needs to be added to your library.

by D. Blankenship from The Ozarks on 2009-08-21
This is the second offering in a three book series edited by Stephen W. Hines. As with the first offering, the editor has done a wonderful job. This little work includes quite a number of articles written by Laura Ingails Wilder over the years that appeared in a number of publications. In addition to writing the now famous Little House on the Prairie books, Mrs. Wilder was also a journalist for many years prior to the writing of these books she was most noted for. As stated, this is a small collection of her published articles and dwells on quite a number of subjects, the central theme being turn of the century farm life, women's issues at that time, working conditions and sound advice. The life of a pioneer woman was hard, no doubt, but it also had benefits which Laura Ingails is quick to point out. I admit to being a big Wilder fan and have been for most of my life. We live just a few miles from Rocky Ridge Farm located in the Ozarks where Laura did all of her writing. I must say that she captured the attitude, landscape, economic realities, hardships, advantages and so much more of the area perfectly in her writing. As with her well know books, her writing style is quite smooth and captures the reader almost instantly whether she is talking about how to wash your face, raise a flock of chickens, or ingenious ways of producing running water in your home. Through all of this work, the reader can sense the tremendous hard work that most small farmers and their wives went through before the arrival of electricity and the combustion engine. One gets the sense of how grateful Mrs. Wilder and her neighbors were of these labor saving devices. I noted that several articles featured cream separation machines as well as those that churned butter. These improvements alone must have seemed like miracles to these hard working farm ladies. Through all of this through; through the descriptions of hard labor and hard times, the author never once ceases to emphasis that life is good and to note and remind the reader of the good things that surround them and the superiority of country life compared to "city life." Always on the look out for ways to improve living conditions, culture and awareness, Laura passes these tips and observations on to her readers in a most wonderful and gentle way. Her respect for the land and the people shines through on every page. This little book contains only 116 pages and includes several black and white photographs of the Wilder Place and it can be read in one or two short settings which is sort of a pity as the reader will be left with the feeling that they want more, so much more. For a very pleasurable read and a glance into a past way of life that I fear (an am grateful for at the same time) we will never see again, the reader could do far worse. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

AMAZING LOOK AT THE PAST THROUGH THE EYES OF ONE OF THE GREAT!

by D. Blankenship from The Ozarks on 2009-08-12
This is the first of three books edited by Stephen W. Hines concerning and addressing Laura Ingalls Wilder, the author of the Little House of the Prairie books. The books Wilder wrote numbered eight in total and were written when she was in her sixties. Many do not realize that before the now famous books were written that Mrs. Wilder was a journalist and wrote a column for The Missouri Ruralist for quite a number of years. This little book that is being reviewed is a collection of her writings taken from that publication. All these articles were written near the turn of the last century. I feel that a very good argument could be made that Laura Ingalls Wilder was one of the most influential writers of the first half of the past century. Even if we discard the fact that one of the most popular television shows in history was based on her stories, we still are left with the fact that her eight books had a tremendous impact on the youth of this country during the time of their publication and far, far after. There are more than ten million copies of her books in print at this time with more being run off the press as each year passes. It would be quite difficult to find any school or library in this country that did not contain her work; indeed, it would be difficult to find many countries around the world that did not have them on their shelves. Thousands upon thousands of school children, year after year, cut their reading teeth on these eight little works. Ask just about any literate American who Laura Ingles is or was and they will be able to tell you. On the other hand, ask them to name five dead Russian authors, six dead English authors and twenty five French, and chances are slim if they can name half that many. Ask further what these literary greats actually wrote and I will promise you that you will receive a complete blank stare in the majority of cases. Go a step further and ask any of these people to give a brief outline of just one piece of the cumulative work of these "word giants," and you will get a double blank look. Not so with Wilder's work! Folks, this is influence! This collection of 35 short column offerings is an absolute gem. Wilder's simple and uncluttered syntax shines though and the reader is given a wonderful glimpse of what is to be created in the future. This is a collection of advice given to young readers. It is simple and to the point, yet each piece flows wonderfully. What is so fascinating about each bit of advice given is that is absolutely timeless. The right thing to do, the way to treat people and the realistic observations recorded here apply to now just as much as they did in the early 1900s. Even though these words were written well over 100 years ago, they are still quite readable. I note that many young people have difficulty reading the wonderful Anne of Green Gables series due to the style in which it was written, i.e. very, very post Victorian. Not so with these little bits! Yes, you will note a different in the flow and a difference in the structure of some sentences, but overall Mrs. Wilder setting at your kitchen table using the same word forms and patterns would not at all be out of place in the here and now! I enjoyed this work, not only because I am a big Wilder fan, but also because the editor, Stephen W. Hines did not muck around with her words and bore us to tears with "insightful" pontifications of his own. He let her work stand on its own merits and trusted the reader to come to their own conclusions. I found that to be quite refreshing. This is almost a must read for Wilder fans. There are two more books in this series that I am into right now and they are just as well put together as this one is. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

Brilliantly put!

by Tonya Speelman from Goldendale WA on 2006-08-14
Ms. Wilder has advice about everything, but most might not like it. I found this book very interesting and made me think quite a bit. One part, she said if you have a headache, if you focus on it, it will become worse. If you think about other things, it might go away. She had such brilliant words of wisdom, I can't wait to pass these on to my girls. I am reading the second one, and hope to pick up the rest.

The Wilder bio I've been waiting for!

by Sarah Miller from Michigan on 2007-12-02
I can hardly say enough good things about this book. It's exactly the sort of Laura Ingalls Wilder biography I've been wishing for: straightforward non-fiction (footnotes and everything!) with a steady focus on Laura, giving equal weight to both the true details of her life and to her writing. As an author of children's historical fiction herself, Pamela Smith Hill gives ample insight into the craft of Wilder's writing, drawing attention to a great many elements of the structure and theme of the Little House books that I'd never put together myself. Based on those observations, Hill presents a compelling case that despite being steeped in historical and autobiographical details, Wilder's books are indeed fiction -- a personal history consciously trimmed and molded to fit the form and countours of the novel. Hill also tackles the fascinating editorial partnership between Laura Ingalls Wilder and daughter Rose Wilder Lane, pointing out with concrete examples how the combination of each woman's natural strengths and gifts contributed to the overall shape and tone of Wilder's novels. Thankfully, Hill manages to keep Rose's dynamic and voilatile personality from overpowering the second half of the book, all the while giving an uncluttered assessment of Rose's role in bringing the Little House stories to print. I have no complaints about this book. Not a single one.

So much great information...

by C. Dolezal from Dallas, IA United States on 2008-06-04
I read this book out loud to my husband as we are both Laura lovers, and we were both fascinated. It was nice to learn the facts about how biographical the little house series is and isn't after years of hearing that it was her true story and then all the complaints that it wasn't. After reading this book, I feel that I know and understand Laura much better. It turned her from a literary character into a real woman who lived the life of a farm wife. Such facts, like the true story of the long winter, were amazing. I only felt that it sort of left Almanzo out of the picture most of the time while concentrating on Laura and Rose. In my mind, you just can't have Laura without Almanzo, and I would have liked to hear more about him. Over the years I've read everything I could get my hands on about Laura. I have also visited all the sites in her books as well as Mansfield, MO a number of times. I thought I knew all there was to know, but this book proved me wrong.

A VERY INFORMATIVE AND FULLFILLING READ...I am sorry to see this little series end.

by D. Blankenship from The Ozarks on 2009-08-25
This little work is the third and final book is a wonderful little series edited by Stephen W. Hines. Oddly enough, it is targeted and designated YA although I must say that it is a delightful read for all ages and any adult, especially Wilder fans will enjoy every word and actually learn a bit. In this collection, the editor has taken actual interviews from people living in Laura's home town and other parts of the country, articles, past published interviews and Mrs. Wilder's own words to portray how she was perceived in her own community during her own time. How did she react to her fame? Did she make a lot of money with her books? What was, through the eyes of others, her relationship with her daughter, Rose? How was her husband Almanzo perceived and what was his relationship with Laura really like? Was this most famous author a bit quirky or eccentric? Was she happy? The reader must remember that Laura Ingails Wilder lived in her community of Mansfield, Missouri from 1894 until her death in 1957 and that her first work Little House in the Big Woods was not published until 1932 when Laura was in her mid 60s. She died at the age of 90 well before the now famous T.V. series was even considered. It should also be noted that Mrs. Wilder's education only went as far as two semesters of high school and it must also be remembered that her daughter Rose, was a best selling author long before Laura began her own writing career. Unfortunately the work of Rose is lost in the literary mist of the past and in fact was quickly fading and all but forgotten before the Little House books hit the bookshelves. Please note that there are quite a number of biographies out there dealing with the Wilder family. This work does not go into the tumultuous relationship between Laura and Rose and as a matter of fact sort of glosses it over. While it pays lip service to Almonzo's handicap, it does not address the problems that this cause. This after all is targeted for youth and there are certainly a plethoria of works out there discussing such matters. In addition to finding out some wonderful things about one of my favorite authors, I was also very pleased that many of the interviews and articles included very nicely done glimpses into the hard, hard, life of the small farmer in the Ozarks during that time period (Actually, things have not changed all that much...truth be told). Of course being raised a few miles from Mansfield and now living even closer allowed me to understand perfectly the attitude of the people and the culture which surrounded Laura and her family. It was quite similar to my family and the community I grew up in. The editor concludes this work with a delightful discussion of some of the mysteries surrounding the life of this wonderful children's write. Laura's Cave (All tales and families from the Ozarks have to have at least one cave involved). Did Laura really write these books or did Rose? Will her unpublished work ever be published? Was Laura really rich and how did she view money? Interesting speculation here and good answers, as far as it goes. Young or old, you will find this to be a very rewarding read and I doubt that even the most ardent LIW fan will be disappointed. This is a short, quick read and well worth the time spent with it. Highly recommend. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

A must have book for Laura Ingalls fans.

by from on 1999-08-04
I expected a lot from this book, and I got even more than expected. Besides a lot of beautiful color photos, some two pages wide, there is a wealth of family photos. Not only pictures of Laura's immediate family, but the aunts and uncles, and even their Minnesota neighbors, the Nelsons. This book solves the mystery of what the China Shepherdess looks like as well as Laura's China Box. There is even a photo of Dr. Tan's grave. If you can't visit the places in Laura's books, this book will take you there, and also take you where you can no longer go with photos taken by Garth Williams and other photographers of places that no longer exist. There are even photos of paintings done by Harvey Dunn, Grace's husband, based on Laura's family and a painting done by Laura to explain to Grace what a tree looked like. You can see Pa's cottonwoods that survive today as well as the remnants of Almanzo's tree claim. And just as wonderful, the book fills in details not in Laura's books, so you can find out about her baby brother. The only thing lacking is a photo of Nellie Oleson. You won't be disappointed!

A lovely book

by from on 2000-01-21
A beautifully photographed book that gives the reader an idea of what the places in Wilder's books really looked like. These sights are what Laura was envisioning when she wrote her childhood memories. My favorite picture is the wedding photo of Caroline and Charles Ingalls. Since they are always seen from Laura's perspective, it's easy to forget that they were once a young couple just starting out on their married life together, with no idea of what the future would bring. It was just a thought that occurred to me when I saw the picture. You just know they never expected that millions of people in the 20th century would fondly know of them as the Ma and Pa Ingalls.

Need song title for a "creature from the black lagoon" version?

I don't know what the name of this song is, or the artist, here are some of the lyrics:

(starts with bubbles)
You better ask my momma how to make a monster
I'm the creature from the black river lagoon
I'm a beautiful monster from outer space

chorus:
Black, black, black, river river
smash smash, black black river ( i think)
kill, kill, black, black river,
crash, crash, black black river
Creature from the black river lagoon

Cramps - The Creature From The Black Leather Lagoon !!!!!!

Better ask my momma how to make a monster... i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon, i'm a beautiful monster from outer space, too, learned how to shake my hips in the inner sanctum, satan gave me tips and then i thanked him, i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon [chorus:] black black, black black leather, smash smash, black black leather, kill kill, black black leather, crash crash, black black leather, i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon i'm a chicken-fried fire-eatin' son of a gun, concieved by my devil daddy on a chicken run, like a fireball flyin' down thunder road, daddy made mama but she shoulda said no, i'm the raw Hyde monster they named number 1 i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon, i'm a genuine juvenille delinquent from the moon, i'm like a hundred billion hydrogen bombs, mama wanted a goat, but i got mom's, i'm the creature from the black leather lagoon

Awesome

by RACHEL from ohio on 2003-10-17
This book is about a young boy and the fear of his music teacher due to the rumors he hears about her. The main character is a little boy who's name was neve mentioned, but he doesn't like getting up in fromt of the class and he hears he has to sing solos and play instruments. The setting is at an elementary schol. This book would be good for just about anyone because the author chose to write about a topic that everyone has experienced first hand, GOSSIP!! This book is a fantasy. I like the way the author used that topic for the familiarity and the adult oriented jokes that you never notice or even understand until you get older. This book reminds me of my own school. Because, rumors can get so out of hand there in a short amount of time. This reminds me of some of Dr. Seuss' writings. What sets this book aside is the inside jokes that I mentioned earlier, not many children's books include those. I really liked this book because its just like talking to a five year old boy about a teacher he hasn't met yet. It's shockingly realistic. But, what really brought it together was at the end when they explained what the teacher was really like.

Awesome

by RACHEL from ohio on 2003-10-17
This was my favorite book when I was little. I love the way they use the way kids exaggerate. The rumors about this teacher get completely out of hand and they use humorous "inside jokes" that only older kids would know about. It was silly yet oddly genious at the same time. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every book in this series is outstanding, much liked by children.

by Maria Conzemius from Iowa City, IA USA on 2009-04-02
Every book in this series is outstanding and much liked by children. The only caveat I would add is to the happy endings; not always true in real life. Sometimes lunch ladies ARE bears, and sometimes, so are teachers and principals. To the children of those famously obnoxious types who don't earn their paychecks and have no talent for the job, my sympathies. I've been there, and so have my children.
