Sewing machine for children?
My sister's 10th birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and she has been talking about wanting a sewing machine for months.
She is very into designing and fashion, she's played all the fashion-related video games, read books, gone through every last one of those little fashion craft kits at the stores... I think she's exuberated enough interest in the topic to have earned a sewing machine for her birthday.
The thing is, she's never touched a sewing machine before... and I haven't since 8th grade home ec, which was about 6 years ago. I'm clueless in what kind of sewing machine to get her. There IS a Bratz one for $40, but I'm not sure that's the best choice... it'll probably break in about a week.
I want a good brand for her, as I have a feeling this machine will get a lot of use for a long time from her. Something near the $100 range, give or take a little.
Any suggestions? Something simple to work and learn.
Also, do you think she'll need sewing machine classes?
I recently bought a sewing machine for my 8 year old who loves sewing as well. Here in Australia Janome has a child's sewing machine called Blossom. It operates the same as a normal machine but on a smaller scale. It cost me $120 Australian. If you have a look on the Janome web site you might find that one or one similar suited for your country.
